Farewell to Dr. Diana Wilson
Sadly, after 5 years at our clinics Di will be leaving us, as she has progressed into an exciting new phase in her life. She has purchased an existing Veterinary practice and will take over ownership in January 2012. We never like to lose a valued member of staff, but in this situation we can only be rapt for her! We wish her all the best in her adventures!
A big welcome to Rob!
During the busy summer season we have increased our staffing at the clinics to help us continue to provide you with prompt service when you need it. We have been lucky to secure the services of Dr. Rob Quinn, an English Veterinarian who is on a working holiday in Australia. Rob has a great set of skills, and is completing further studies in surgery at the moment, but just as importantly, he's a nice bloke! We hope his time with us is enjoyable for him, us, and our clients and pets.
Update: Dr Michael, Dr Lisa and the boys trip to India.
Dr Michael, Dr Lisa, sons Finlay and Archie recently returned from their 3-week working trip to India. Their 6-year old son has written a touching report on his experience for us to share with you...
My Indian holiday by Archie Heath
My favourite thing about my holiday to India was the street dog Baloo.
He was at the clinic when we arrived and had had a broken leg for 2 weeks.
My dad amputated Baloo's leg because it wasn't healing. My mum and Dr Natalie helped my Dad with the operation.
My brother and I brought them Pepsi's to drink when they were finished.
Baloo felt much better without his sore leg.
Dr Natalie gave Baloo his vaccinations so he wouldn't get sick.
My mum made sure Baloo got his medicines every day and my brother and I took him for a walk to help him practice getting around on his 3 legs.
All the monks around loved seeing Baloo on his morning walk.
I wish we could have taken Baloo home with us to Australia.
I will miss him and want to go back again to see how he is doing and if he remembers me.

Our spectacular renovations have finally begun!
After working from the same building at East Bentleigh for 30 years, it is time for an upgrade!
Our extensive renovations are now underway to build an exciting new clinic on the same site at 172 East Boundary Road in East Bentleigh. Business will continue as usual and our opening hours will remain the same.
During the second half of 2011 we will be building a exciting new clinic on the same site at 172 East Boundary Road in East Bentleigh.
The first part of this renovation is for the direct benefit of our clients and owners. The Eastern end of the building is to be demolished and a sparkling new waiting room, receptions, hydrobath and grooming room, cat boarding room, and consultation suite will be built. This will reverse the current plan, and clients will enter through the new front doors facing onto the current car park.
The second part of the renovation will benefit you in more indirect ways, by providing our pets with new comfortable hospital wards and we will be getting improved surgical facilities. While our current surgery is sufficient, the renovation will include a separate room for cleaning and sterilising equipment, and this will greatly "de-clutter" the surgery room itself. This preparation room will also di rectly communicate with the second operating space, which will be for the less sterile surgical procedures such as dental procedures, and for our intensive care hospital.
This is all enormously exciting for us, and we are excited as well for our clients, as we know that this is going to benefit them dramatically. We are planning the build so as to interrupt the day-to-day running of the practice as little as possible. Remember, if the cow is out the front, we're open!
It's not only the clinic that is receiving a makeover...
It's the cow also! As many of you know, the clinic is infamously known as The Blue Clinic with the Cow. Unfortunately, due to regulations, the external of our new clinic will no longer remain blue. So we have decided give our ragged old cow a makeover and have painted her blue! So instead of being The Blue Clinic with the Cow, we will now be The Clinic with the Blue Cow!
Stem Cell Treatment for Arthritis in Cats and Dogs
In the past month Michael, Damian and Lisa, introduced a new therapy for chronic arthritis in dogs. Fat is harvested in the morning and stem cells are extracted from the fat in a complex procedure during the morning. After we have purified, activated and concentrated the dogs own stemcells they are injected into the most affected joints.
We will let you know how 'Sam', ‘Kimba', and 'Tiger' are responding.
We are currently only performing this treatment from Black Rock as a day procedure. Please call BRAH to speak to Michael if you would like to know more.
